A comparative study of milk serum proteins in camel (Camelus dromedarius) and bovine colostrum
نویسنده
چکیده
Camel (Camelus dromedarius) whey proteins were detected and compared to bovine whey proteins using size exclusion chromatography columns on HPLC. Camel whey proteins such as serum albumin and a-lactalbumin appear to possess molecular weights similar to the respective bovine whey proteins. Camel whey lacks b-lactoglobulin and consists of large amount of serum albumin, compared to bovine whey. Camel colostrum is rich in IgG and serum albumin, which reduce in amount already after 3 days postpartum. The main protein in camel colostrum whey is serum albumin while that of bovine colostrum whey is b-lactoglobulin. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Isolation and characterization of serum albumin from Camelus dromedarius
Serum albumin constitutes 35-50 mg/ml of plasma proteins and performs various physiological activities including the regulation of osmotic pressure on blood, maintaining buffering of the blood pH, carrying different fatty acids and other small molecules, such as bilirubin, hormones, drugs and metal ions, as well as participating in immunological responses. Serum albumin is an extensively used p...
متن کاملInfluence of Wet and Dry Season on Milk Composition of Dromedary Camels (Camelus dromedarius) from Tunisia
This study investigated the effect of season (wet and dry) on milk composition of the dromedary camel (Camelus dromedarius). Milk samples representing the wet and dry seasons were analyzed for total solids (TS), fat (F), solids-non-fat (SNF), ash, crude protein (CP), nitrogen soluble at pH 4.6 (SN), mineral content (MC) and casein fraction (CnF). Camel milk had higher (P

This review examines the one humped camel (Camelus dromedarius) a considerable number of the dromedary about 50,000 is found in the semi-arid part of Northern Nigeria. Apart from the wide use of the camel as a draught animal the camel now serve as a source of milk, meat and hide in this region, these notes examines the anatomical basis of reproduction, pregnancy, and its diagnosis, fertility, a...
متن کاملStudies on the supply of immunoglobulin G to newborn camel calves (Camelus dromedarius).
A major problem in camel productivity is the high mortality rate of camel calves in the first 3 months. The causes for mortality are mainly poor management practice and infectious diseases. The purpose of this research, carried out on a ranch in Kenya, was to determine the immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentration in camel colostrum as well as the extent of the calves' passive immunization by matern...
متن کاملThe Creaming Properties and Size Distribution of Fat Globules in Camel Milk
The natural creaming of raw and heated camel milk was studied. Compared with cow (Bos taurus) milk, camel (Camelus dromedarius) milk showed very slow creaming rate in both raw and heated milk at refrigerator and room temperatures. Fat globule size distribution was similar in cow and camel milks. The creaming ability was also studied in various combinations of skim milks and creams of raw camel ...
